Planning for the Holidays

Updated: Nov 13, 2019

As the weather starts to turn from Fall to Winter here in Minnesota it makes me start thinking about Holiday sewing projects. I love to make handmade gifts for my family and friends.

Have you started planning your holiday projects yet? If so, good for you! If not, read on to hear about a fun Instagram event starting this week!

Swirly Girls has teamed up with Fat Quarter Gypsy, Seams Like A Dream, and Poorhouse Quilt Designs to bring you fun gift and decorating ideas you can make now.

Look for our guide in the November issue of AQS Magazine on Page 19.

We will each be posting twice a week on Instagram with inspiration for you. Just follow the hashtag #amakersgiftguide to follow along!

Time for the first two projects!

Make a 24" centerpiece for over your table or a 36" or 48" tree skirt for under your tree.

The pattern uses the Creative Grids 30 degree ruler which makes fast wok of cutting everything out. Choose fabrics in 3 colors and you are off and sewing! You won't want to give this tree skirt away... but maybe a 24" table topper for a friend?

Next up is a fun project with a little bit of humor. I love to hang cute things in my sewing space. This pattern contains 3 projects that are sure to bring a smile to any sewing enthusiast's face!

First is a cute little sign warning possible scissor borrowers to stay away from your sewing scissors. DO NOT TOUCH!

The scissor wall hanging is just adorable and would brighten any wall in your sewing space.

The pillow is a bit abrupt, but sometimes getting right to the point is needed... how cute would this be on a chair near your sewing machine?
